Oral Surgery Recovery Tips

Staying on top of your oral healthcare will make you feel more comfortable and confident, and it will prevent costly and preventable treatments down the line. If you need a more invasive procedure, such as a tooth extraction or other surgical procedure, it is essential to make sure you have a dental team you can trust. At Westwood Esthetics, Dr. Kiai and his team want you to have a smooth experience with as little recovery time as possible. Here are some tips for your post-operative care:

  1. Make sure you have someone who can help! Post-operative support is necessary for procedures that require anesthesia.
  2. No smoking pre-operation and for at least 24 hours after your operation.
  3. Have a meal plan for your recovery days to minimize your activity and movement and ensure that you are getting an adequate amount of nutrition. Avoid foods you need to chew.
  4. Avoid spicy or acidic foods to prevent any complications.
  5. Avoid caffeinated beverages, alcoholic beverages, and hot beverages for at least 24 hours following surgery.
  6. No straws for at least a week.
  7. Use ice packs for swelling as needed.
  8. Make sure to clean your mouth as directed by your oral surgeon to avoid any complications.
